Nephew has a 2004 Sierra Denali, awd, quad steer. Tranny temp will max out and the truck wont go past 25mph (im guessing limp mode?) No codes...

It has 190k on it, i'm thinking maybe a stopped up tranny filter or a tranny line?

High heat is death to a trans. Trans cooler and lines may be clogged and not dissipating heat like they should. The overheated fluid has damaged the trans. Qualified shop needs to inspect and when fix the trans make sure the lines and cooler are flushed or replaced as needed. May have other problems but need to address the obvious first and go on from there.

They don't last forever! get it rebuilt or learn how to do it yourself.

I don't understand why people get bent out of shape when the trans gives up over 150k.
its one of the hardest working units the truck has. I consider anything over 125k a gift.

Sorry for being a grump.

Looks like you are the only one getting bent out of shape, it was a question, if you have nothing to say to help no need to comment. Some times it could be some something simple to fix a problem, that's why we ask questions, why spend 2k when you can spend 200.00..

I agree with chevync. If there is an easy cheap fix, would definitely search for another issue first. The transmission cooler may be clogged. But the downside to the situation is that now the transmission has been ran to hot and has probably boiled the transmission fluid. Get a good Trans flush. If you bought the truck used, it may have a newer trans and you may not know it. Good luck!

It's going in the shop today so the garage can check it out. I got lucky when I bought my tahoe, the trans has around 10k on it, it's a gm crate trans.
