Cracked the housing on my tranny . Gonna change it this weekend. Want to know how easy it is to drop a 4L80E in or if it's just easier to throw the 60 in quick without problems.

Depends on the year, later model years have replaceable bell housings if that is where it cracked.

When I cracked my transmission, I was planning on putting the 80 in. As long as you get one from the correct year everybody told me it would be fine, but they are harder to find and a little bit more pricy. At the last second I whimped out and put a 60 back in. How did you break yours?

It cracked right around the tail end before it mates to the transfer case. The entire tranny case is shot.

So far I've been looking and 60s are gonna run me a hell of a lot for high miles in my area. The bone yard that has the cheapest parts doesn't have any sadly. A guy I work with might have one out of a 95 pickup. Will that work?

unknown at this time.
Any 4l60e should work as long as you note that the later '99-on units had a slightly bigger converter and different bell housing. IIRC the flex-plate was changed because of it. It year from the factory improvements were made on the tranny so depending on what you get will determine if you have a better built one then before. You can always rebuild it and incorporate the changes as well. being a 95 it probably is not likely to have hardly any improvements in it.

Ouch.... Well I'm okay with a 95 right now. Need wheels. Was riding the bike since the snows melting. Then it got cold so I grabbed and put plates on my dads 73 Sprint.

What condition was the trans in? When mine cracked, I found a shop that had the case and he was going to charge me $100 for the case and $50 for putting it on. It turned out that mine didn't have much life left any ways so I ended up getting a rebuild.
