I have a 1997 tahoe 5.7 and I bought a used rad at the salvage yard today out of another tahoe might be a yukon but from a 1996

Everything matches my existing rad but the trans lines do not fit in the new one. I'm so frustrated because draining all that coolant out was a mess and horrible job.

I went to pepboys and wasted an hour looking for brass adapters got home and they thread in no problem but the trans line does not seat and needs an o ring to seal it right?

I'm not sure what to do. All I know is the threaded part is 3/8"

Why would the trans cooler part of the rad be smaller?

Not sure abput it being smaller but yes there are o-rings.

Yep definitely smaller holes for the trans lines on the replacement rad I got.

And I got the part numbers from my existing rad is 52469075 and the replacement is 52467234 :banghead::banghead:

Well $50 down the drain I'll never get back.

So today was eventful to say the least. Started at 8am and just got done at 530 working on the replacing the radiator.

Since I got the wrong radiator from the salvage yard I swapped end tanks with my radiator that leaks coolant by the oil cooler line.

So I put it in and it leaks at the same spot! So then I had an idea to double up the gaskets to see if that would work. So I had to drain everything again and take it all apart again. So finally got it back together and leaks again same damn spot!!

So I just got done using JB Weld and loaded it up. The hardest part was putting it on with drips of coolant coming out. After it set for 20 mins not a drip to be found. I'm going to let it sit until monday to fully cure.

I just want it to get me through the fall and winter I plan a full cooling system rebuild in the spring with a new delphi rad, water pump, fan clutch, coolant temp sensor and superstat thermostat and all hoses.

Threw in an air temp sensor and IAC I got from the salvage yard today to see if that changes my high idle issue. Parts came out of a tahoe with only 100k on it. Worth a shot.

Why didn't you just get the right radiator in the first place? a few extra dollars then would have saved you all your time messing the junk yard unit.

A few? Try $150 more I paid $50 for the one from the scrap yard. A new Dephi is $200 plus a water pump and the other stuff. Money is tight right now.

Well all the time spent running here and there adds up. If your WP isn't leaking, why replace it? I know all about how short money is, but better time management is worth $$ in the end.

$50 for a junk yard rad and what is your time worth? how many days?
Not trying to be a butt, just trying to make a point.
