transfer case..

so if its my tcase ticking, and i cant seem to find a fix without replaceing the whole thing, how lonng can one of these last while ticking, and what happens when they completely fail

so there is a chain in the transfer case right?, do these things stretch possibly? sound could b like the stretched chain slack, if so anyone know what the chain and fixing it cost?
