Transmission went out on my 2017 Tahoe while out of town. Dealer is having a helluva time finding one; supposedly on back-order. Not sure if this is directly related to supply chain issues or not. Anyone know a dealer who could be sitting on a six-speed?
TIA

Send the last 8 of your VIN to Rene, @915_Tahoe and he can check across the country for you.

Why not just take it somewhere to have it rebuilt? I rebuilt the 6L80 in my 2010 Tahoe after a torque converter lock failure it wasn't even that bad of a rebuild so a shop with experience will get it done, worst part for me was doing it on jack stands since I don't yet have a lift and I got it all done in 3 days, a shop should be able to half that. Have 70k on mine since I rebuilt it and works like it should.

sounds like he is out of town and probably not looking forward to a week of downtime, unless you are lucky and find a shop a shop that can knock it out in less time which is unlikely, most shops will tear it down and then order the parts needed, then in the meantime they work on the other stuff that keeps them getting paid while parts come in, that's kinda how it goes.

Yes I see that but if he cannot find a tranny there aren't many options. He didn't say where he was but the 6l80 is a very common tranny and any major metroplex would have parts in stock for a rebuild. For the difference in price he could rent a car.... New Trannies aren't cheap.

true, and plenty of other places have them already built and are just 2-3 days out (shipping time)

Thanks, it was supposed to have been a “it’ll be here in two days.” But, it sounds like supply chain issues have caused these to go on backorder. Supposedly GM has a team calling dealers that show inventory to see if they are being used or just being sat on to fetch a premium. That was 2 days ago…
Also a new one comes with a 3yr/100k mile warranty just in case. Not sure if a re-built would offer anything.

I have the same problem with my 2016 Yukon. I've been told it's 1-2 weeks for a new tranny. That was 2 weeks ago. I'm sitting on a rental car that's costing me an arm and leg since there are no loaners. Mine is under warranty, so I won't consider a rebuild.

I understand but if me doing my first ever automatic transmission rebuild (since I mostly run manuals) now has over 70k miles on it since I did it I would hope anyone with experience could do a good job. What was the failure on yours? Did it just lose drive or what?
