About 6 months ago I burned up the tranny in my 04 Tahoe z71 while towing a small trailer on a road trip. It went to downshift to go up a hill, and there was nothing. Tach pegged out.
Replaced transmission, new torque converter as well. Within 100 miles the problem was back. Now at normal acceleration, shift from 1-2 is hard. Really hard. Around 2k rpm in 2nd gear it is gone. As if I shifted into neutral. If I feather the pedal it will catch, but with slipping.

If I put the pedal to the floor, it will shift all the way to 4th, but engine rpm is about 1000-1500 more than usual.

I've gotten the computer re flashed from the dealer, zero help.

I also now have a "passenger door ajar" with some lights on while driving now. Not sure if they are connected but hoping.

Please help, I'm over $4k deep into this POS and I just want it to be functional so I can wash my hands of by far the worst decision I've made in recent memory buying this.

I meant dome lights, not some lights. On that note, there is no CEL on or anything else displayed in the CID.

I had a rebuilt transmission put into my 2006 YXLD last month @ only 83,600 miles :( The rebuilddid the exact same thing. In almost the exact same timing. 4L65E trans. No codes either. I was pissed. Came from a trans rebuilder in northern california. Never did figure out exactly what caused the problem other than the guy is a crappy trans rebuilder. Still battling getting my money back. I told the trans shop to tear that piece of crap out of my car and ended up taking original factory trans to him and had him rebuild my trans. Night and day. My car drives like a brand new car.

It was AME transmission. Out of Florida.
Doesn't really help me out at all though.

It was a valid question with additional commentary. If you'd said "I rebuilt it", then we could go into trouble shooting, but since you've paid someone to rebuild the transmission, and they apparently biffed it, I'm shocked you haven't taken it back to them and asked them to make it right. That would be the logical first step.

Did they give you a warranty on the rebuild? If do,you should take it back to them and have them figure out what's wrong with it and replace it. The original rebuild I bought was supposed to have a warranty and the guy that I bought it from flaked and said my warranty was voided. So that's why I'm battling it out. @ least when I had my trans shop rebuild my factory unit in guaranteed through his warranty.

Several new additions to the main issue.
1. AME transmission is a scam. They've since been shit down since I bought mine and many many other people have received defective transmissions. WORST PEOPLE IMAGINABLE

2. Crawled the Tahoe to the dealer to get the computer re-flashed hoping maybe it was still operating on the burned up tranny settings, nope. But it did make a slight change. If I WOT the Tahoe out it will shift up to 3rd gear and hold. RPM is about 600 higher than usual but it shifts.

3. Replaced the TPS thinking maybe that was the issue. Nope.

I now have "passenger door ajar" all the time, the dome lights do whatever they want really, and the locks do whatever they want as well.

I scanned for DTC's and nothing, but it did say there was a possible emissions failure as it couldn't test the EVAP system or the O2 sensors.

All in all, I'm really close to developing a really serious drinking habit over this, still looking into legal options against the former owners/managers of AME, almost $6k into this between all the rows and trips to dealers and mechanics and other mehanics.

Every night I hope that a tree has fallen onto it before I wake. Hasn't happened yet.

That really, really blows. If I were you, I might try to sell it on craigslist and stop throwing money into it.

The transmission alone is aggravating, but salvageable if you are willing to take it to another shop and pay them to rebuild it again. The nail in the coffin is what appears to be electrical problems which may or may not have anything to do with the shoddy transmission work. It sounds like you're still at least a couple grand away from getting it working right, and you have to ask yourself whether you're willing to continue to throw good money after bad.

I feel pain. I dealt with almost the exact same transmission scenario for the last 6 months. Trans rebuild shop i bought from gave me a defective unit and he didn't want to honor, his warranty and fix his mistakes. I had to take my original factory trans down to the trans shop and have it rebuilt. It was costly but I can't afford to have my car not running. So I ate and spent the extra money to have it rebuilt. Best decision ever. Im about 5k into my trans fix as well. With all the work I had done thinking a small part would fix the issue. No such luck. But now I'm just letting my credit card company handle the bad business deal. I'll most likely get the original money I spent on the rebuilt trans back. But if you don't want to spend anymore money on the truck than I'd say wash your hands of it and try and sell it now.
