I think I discovered my actual problem. My 09 Denali has been knocking on cold starts. First thought was piston slap or lifter tap. Neither seem right due to how long it takes for the knock to go away etc. Truck idles with no knock, only when accelerating. With the motor/trans cold I got the truck up to 20-30mph and shift into Neutral and rev'd the engine slow and fast to see if there was a knock. Nothing! smooth!. Back into drive and KNOCK, KNOCK, KNOCK all the way home. Also tried to punch it to down shift the tranny and it shuddered as to tell me it was way to early in am and cold (40 degrees) to be getting on it.
The knock will go away once the tranny has had time to warm up and will operate normal. 20-30min plus of running.
What is causing the knock? Pump? Converter?
Tranny has fluid with no visible leaks, but could use a change.
