transmission issue shifting sporadically

i have a 98 tahoe and when it gets really hot out or i drive it for long periods of time it likes to jump in and out of od from 3rd, or 3rd to 4th im unsure ... i dont know much at all when it comes to 4l60e transmissions and im a little worried ill be paying for a new tranny soon. any help to or ideas as to what is causing this would be grately appreciated!!! thank you

What have you checked? Fluid???

Do you have a load on it? A lot of times when your pulling a trailer, they shift in and out of overdrive depending on how much weight you have.
