Driving down the interstate last night, I lost just about all my transmission fluid. There was fluid all over the driver's side in the area by the fuel filter. I pulled over and got towed to the nearest town and bought some fluid to see where it was leaking from. Put the fluid in, and rolled around the parking lot, no leak. Drove up and down the road, no leak. Finished the drive home and checked periodically, no leak. I checked it before heading to work, you guessed it, no leak.

So what could have happened? It shifted fine the whole way home and haven't had a problem since. I'm going to put it up on a lift at work and look things over some more, but I'm not sure what I'm going to find. Any ideas?

ALL of it? It could have been a torque converter bushing that under heat and pressure could have leaked, check the breather tube and dipstick tube. Its strange that it didnt leak again. Also, make sure the extension shaft housing seal is good, and no cracks or damage to the trans case.

The stick was dry when I pulled off. What would cause it to come out the breather tube? At first glance, I thought the breather tube was a cut line and it looked like that's where it was coming out.

Wow. Good job, your Hoe's posessed. I have one of those, too. Drive it hard, and see if you can get it to repro. If you can't, it would be a really good idea to drain the tranny, drop the pan, replace the filter, put the pan back on, and refill it with good, fresh, clean, tasty ATF. Then, break the old filter open and look for chunks. It's an easy thing to do, and doesn't cost much at all. If you have no problems in your filter, your truck just needed to take a leak. Or at least, I've got nothing for you at that point. :)

Im thinking the seal between the transmission and transfer case is leaking. Im gonna see how full it is and go from there.

How big of a pita is that? I have still yet to have time to put it up on the lift, but the more I think about it, it makes more sense.

Well, it's not leaking into the tcase. I think it just got hot, crappy fluid etc. I'm getting it flushed right now.
