transmission problem.

I have a 1999 chevy tahoe. 2wd. 138,459 miles on it. just yesterday my check engine light came on and i got the code read and it says that the transmission is slipping in the 4th gear. That same day i did notice alittle bit of slip and could see the rpm jump up and down when it did slip. My question is should i replace it with a rebuilt tranny with a warranty or just get mine rebuilt. if i bought another tranny, i was going to put it in myself with my father. how much are the 4l60e trannys going for rebuilt.

You must rebuild and for reference in Vallejo, Ca. 2 months ago the 4l60e costs me $2563 to overhaul with design improvements And that included labor for removal install about $600.

I'm curious how that transmission shifts (and similar performance-minded rebuilds), particularly the 1-2 shift, with the corvette servo installed. I've read a few accounts on other forums where people have said they got a "performance" transmission that shifted way too hard, and they ended up un-doing some of the typical performance mods like the corvette servo or unblocking the accumulator.
