transmission pt. 2

so i replaced the transmission of my 99 tahoe (5.7) with a 95 tranny out of a astrovan (4.3) it drives but wont come out of 1st but will shift in to 2nd if shifter is put there also the speedometer is not working due to the diff plug could the speedo have something to do with it not shifting in the overdrive position?? pls help

Does it move when the truck is in [D]rive?? If you blow the sprag on these trannies it'll only work in the "selected" gears, R/1/2/3, drive won't move ... just a thought.
