Transmission Rebuild

My 2008 Yukon Denali went into limp mode last night and threw codes p0700, p0751, and p0777. I pulled to the side of the road, put it in park and shut it off. When I started it back up, while in gear, it wouldn't move. It felt like it was trying to, but barely. It behaved the same way in neutral.

So, I had it towed to the transmission shop and was told it needed to be rebuilt. They've quoted me $3250 on the low end, assuming nothing is wrong with the torque convertor and the gears. I'm leaning in that direction, but does that sound accurate to rebuild these transmissions?

How does that compare to a new transmission with a warranty

Back in 2013, I put a brand new transmission into my ‘07 XL Denali for $4000 installed. At that time it was only $500 more than a rebuild and it came with a 100,000 mile warranty.

Warranty:

3 years/100,000 miles for passenger cars, 2 years/24,000 miles for trucks over 1 ton, 1 year/12,000 miles for supercharged vehicles and taxi cabs


Ask your local shop for removal & installing price.

that should only be 450$ at the most

this is not a FWD suv
(even a FWD car was only 350$ for my impala)

He quoted $1200 to install.

No way it will take 12 hours to swap out this is RWD not FWD that is the scam artiest price.... he is trying to take advantage of you i'd go elsewhere $450 at the most for labor costs

it's a 4 hour job + the cost of fluid so your looking at $500

12 hrs me and a buddy pulled a transfer case, transmission, did a rear main seal and put it back together under 12 hrs. in a slightly under-equipped garage. 2x4s a strap and a normal floor jack. couple more plugs and such on a newer truck but 12 hrs....

That seems a little high to me. Does the $4K include installation?

For $4K I got a brand new transmission installed, out the door, at a GMC dealer, with a GM factory 100K mile warranty on parts and labor.
