Has anyone added an aftermarket (ie: autometer) trans temp gauge in their truck? And is there a wire already behind the dash that monitors this, that can just be basically tapped into or do you need to install the NPT into the pan?

I just wanna keep an eye on th trans temp for two reasons...
#1 - I don't know how many miles are on the tranny?!?!?

#2 - I tow my enclosed trailer with my Yukon as well?!?!

Any info guys?

My 95 has a code that shows trans over temp conditions. There IS a thermistor in the trans:

I'm sure one of the pins in the side will send that signal, not sure how the temp gauge will convert that to a temp ... I mean I know HOW it does it, I'm not so sure the aftermarket trans temp gauges will use that range ...

I see what your talking about, but not understanding where this is located?!

Just trying not to have to tap the pan and go through the hassel of doing it & if its actually worth it?

Anyone running a Trans Temp Gauge?

Your trans, already has a temp sensor. Just get an inexpensive OBD2 reader, and plug it in, set to trans temperature, when pulling the trailer and it will monitor the temp. Sounds like you don’t kneed it when not pulling the trailer.

Simple solution and the OBD2 scanner, can come in handy for other things.

That thing is in the pan bolted to the valve body. Getting a scanner would be easier ... :D

When I had my trans done, I got a pan with a drain plug, got a single gauge pod and a gauge. I ran the wires through the interior lights so it dims with the gauge lights and turns on and off with the key. Will post pics later this evening.

Here is what i set up in my truck. It is an electric gauge, I also installed a HD trans cooler so the gauge really just tells me when it warms up a bit.

Wow! that write up seems pretty good... I think I'm gonna look into doing it that way for now... I'm gonna check it out tomorrow after I get up.

Look good but I want to have 3 gauges, oil press, watrer temp & trans temp there... So I'm gonna need a triple pod, which I believe that only autometer makes....

But how did you wire your trans gauge up?
