transmission?

i know i could probably do a search but its really late and you guys are usually very helpful about this kind of stuff.

my friend has a 95 silverado and recently 1st and overdrive have went out due to towing his car a little more than he should.

what do you think the cheapest solution would be and what all transmissions fit his truck?

Picking one up from another 95 would be best.

Why not look into the 4L80E swap if he does so much towing?

The cheapest solution would be to pick up a used 4L60E from a bone yard or off craiglsit. You can probably pick up a decent one for under $500. But going this route, there is no gurantee to how long it will last and there is no warranty.
