I had a question and figured it would be more responses here.

I live in Kansas and it gets to around 0 degrees sometimes in the winter and below that with the wind chill. I was going to get a 40K cooler and didn't know if I should actually get the bypass or not.

I read that the bypass will stay closed til the temp reaches 180 degrees, so in the winter I would say that it will never go through the transmission cooler because I doubt that the transmission will reach 180 degrees.
I also read those that the cooler itself will only let it pass through the first 2 sections until it gets to a certain temperature also then it opens the fluid to the rest of the cooler.

I'm stumped on if I should get the bypass or not

I ran a non-bypass 40K in Illinois and saw no ill effects. I couldn't find any documented information regarding additional wear due to lower operating temperatures.

It has a built in sort of bypass. There are some guys running them in cooler climates to no ill effects.
