So i just recenlty purchased a set of CK375's and I am currently bidding on a used one on eBay to use as a spare or my 5th wheel. Well, I was wondering if anyone had suggestions on what I could do to protect the spare or one of my four in rotation if I were to ever get a flat and have to put it on the spare wheel hoist. I was thinking of purchasing a basic tire cover, but I wanted to see if there were any other clever ideas or opinions on why that wouldn't work.

Best way to protect you fifth wheel is to leave it in the garage.

I see no reason to have a heavy chrome 22" wheel hanging as a spare. If you get a flat you get a flat. You don't have to look like a "balla" ALL the time.:)

As far a rotation goes, take the 5th wheel with you when you are going to the shop that day to get it rotated, then bring back the wheel they took off and stick that one in the garage.

Well I was told by a mechanic friend that since I have a 4X4 that I could only use a 22" spare or I could mess up the transfer case or something like that. With that I was looking for a cheap 22X9" rim in case of an emergency and I so happened to find an OEM CK375 at the lowest price. So I wasn't really trying to match my current rims, just coincidence I found it for so cheap.

Also, it is just a used spare so I may not really care too much if it gets dinged on the hoist. Also, Chevy sells a hoist for 22" rims so weight shouldn't be an issue, right?

Your stock 17" spare wheel/tire is close enough in overall diameter that it would not harm anything. You would be just fine even if you had to go 500 miles.

Your mechanic friend is mistaken, like Jimmy said the diameter is close enough. In fact it's close enough for AWD Nalis/Eskys which are a lot more sensitive to rotational discrepancies than 4WDs which spend 99% of their time in 2WD mode. Plus carrying that much extra weigh will cost you mpg.

Btw, even if you don't get a full size spare, remember to replace your stock hoist with the stronger one meant for 22s, otherwise you'll have to shlep the flat 22 in the trunk as opposed to under the truck. It's a cheap part.

Also keep in mind that with a 22 the tire is going to show under the bumper even more than the 17" tire does ... even if there were a cover for it that would stick out even more.

Thanks, I was worried about how much it would stick out. Oh well, I guess I'll just keep my spare CK375 in the garage as advised. But yeah, I am going to still get that 22" hoist. It's only $50 online.
