Ok was looking into upgrading my torque converter.. Have heard many people run Trailblazer I6 torque converters with good results. And then there are those that get a tb converter that has been upgraded. So is a stock tb converter going to be fine or am i better off getting a new converter from somewhere?

Will this mod affect my towing ability? does the tb verter have lock up? One of the aftermarket ones i looked at was a 2600 stall w/ lockup and said it wouldn't affect towing. I assume once you get past 30-35 mph and it locks up any torque converter would work fine...just that time where you drive around town that it would build up heat do to not being locked up?

Pricing out converters it looks like 350 and up for a new or reworked converter. I can get a junk yard converter w/ transmission for $200..so if i can ditch the transmission i would save myself money. Or i am going to call a transmission shop and see if they would sell a used torque converter.

Anyone with experiece in this or thoughts please chime in..looking at doing this instead of a camswap as this will be cheaper and less labor. Does the computer need to be retuned??

a TB stock converter is a great upgrade. But are you doing this for power, ET's or towing? I would only add a TQ if I replaced and put a bigger cam in personally. But some say these LS based vehicles show huge gains by them. But at a loss of mileage, because you have way more slippage down low. I had one in my Yukon after the tranny was rebuilt, 3 days later went back, had them take it out and put stock back in. Hated it.

I was looking for performance gains with quicker take offs. I don't tow a whole lot maybe 5-6 times a year and usually nothing too large(biggest thing i haul is a 19ft fiberglass boat maybe 1-2 times a year). Just don't want to shoot myself in the foot for putting in a higher stall and totally shelling a tranny when towing. I know for towing they say a lower speed stall.... do they make a higher stall that is good for towing??

I would like to install a cam, but so far the cost looks to be quite high in order to get one installed. The TB torque converter would be fairly cheap and i can install it at work. I can install a cam as well, but you have the cost of the cam, plus timing set, plus springs and all that jazz. Plus probably need to have the ecu reprogrammed.

the TB stall would be fine for now, relatively cheap, but get a tranny cooler either way. Biggest you can get, in case you add on later, adding a bigger converter.

Can someone please tell me the difference in the TB torque converter? I assumed all 4l60e had the same torque converter.
