Ok, so most of you are aware that the trans went out in the 2004 Suburban. It had 1, 2 and reverse, but no 3 or OD. Took it to the dealer where I bought it and also bought a $0 deductible extended warranty.

Here is my issue/question. The extended warranty company (UAL) sent out someone to inspect the trans and he agreed that it was cooked and authourized the repair. On Friday the service guy called and saind that they approved the repair and are sending a used transmission to the delaer to have it installed.

At first I said, WTF, hell no. I will blow it up on purpose and make them replace it again.
Then I thought about it and said well the one that was in the truck before it blew up was used.
Then I thought, well if I know the year make and mileage of the vehicle it came from, why not??
Now I am going back to my first thought.

What does everyone think?? What would you say if it was your truck??
BTW this is my wife and kids only mode of transportation and I am gone traveling for work 5 days a week.

insist on getting a rebuilt transmission. you paid money for the warranty therefore they need to pay out. how much money did they authorize do you know ? you might be able to rebuild it somewhere else for cheaper than the stealership.

I agree with hassoun, insist on a new or rebuilt one. You never know what you`re getting with a used one even if it`s still covered under your warranty.

You shouldn`t have to wait to have another one installed if the used one is bad. They should just do it right the first time but not many dealerships do.

Thanks guys. It is not the dealership that is wanting to put a used one in there, it is this BS warranty company (UAL). I do not even know what a used trans would cost as compared to a rebuilt one??
The gm at the dealer is a good friend of mine and is calling the warranty company monday, we shall see.

I bet in the contract it states "USED" replacement parts.

I looked at it quickly last night and did not see anything that stipulated what kind of parts they can put in. I am sure that it says like kind and quality or some BS like that. I will get the dealership to get an allowance from the warranty company if they can and make them pay for the rest.

yeh if they insist on sending you a used one then have them mail you a check and you take it to a friend or a cheaper shop that can rebuild your trans for almost the same price as used or you pay the little difference
