I'm doing a science experiment. My truck has stuck oil rings, like the TSB says. Burns a qt every 500 miles.
I'm trying Valvoline Restore & Protect without the top engine cleaner job. Just letting the oil do its thing.

3000 miles on the V R&P, still burns oil like crazy.
time will tell, & I'm still hoping.

I'm also doing the science experiment, LOL on the neighbors 6.2 engine with 192000 miles. Going to help him with an AFM delete, so we'll see how clean the inside is. He's got about 1500 miles till we dump the second Valvoline oil change. First one came out really dark, so I'm thinking it's doing something.

If ethanol fuel is cheap enough where you live, you should try it instead of, or at least blend it with - gasoline.
Let e85 and Valvoline Restore & Protect do their things concurrently.

if you've got the old style valve cover, you need to update that since it's the cause of most of the oil use. cleaning rings can't solve a hardware problem. but I'm looking forward to your results.

seems everyone is jumping on this. I've got a few k on the first run as well. no issues before had thou. Just for the heck of it. I'll cut the filter open though to see

the real test for this stuff is if someone could. test sticky afm lifters, or maybe atleast take them apart document the amount of varnish and then run a while and re test. be a job for a youtuber. but would be super cool if it could actually keep these lifters clean inside.

I believe we did haha.

and donjetman says there's a more aggressive version of it for Cummins diesels. but also more expensive and would probably need to change filter more often
Valvoline Premium Blue Restore. Not sure about the viscosity - 10W30? About $80 a gallon.
Had I a gallon of this stuff, I'd cut 1/2 a quart of it into my engine per oil change.
