I found a '95 Z71 at a junkyard and noticed it has an NV4500 (I'm pretty sure it is) tranny but didn't get up under to look at the id tag on the case. From searching the 'net, I'm guessing it could either be a NV3500 or 4500, right? Are there any other manual trans that were in those pickups.
BTW, I'm wanting this tranny to swap into my '98 2dr Tahoe 4x4. I searched the forum and followed a lead for 88gmctruck's thread on his 4500 swap, thanx. Any info is appreciated.

Easiest way to tell them apart is the 4500 will have a cast iron case with an aluminum bolt on bellhousing and PTO covers on each side, the 3500 is 1 piece all aluminum. Get the entire setup from it if you can including the transfer case if the price is right.

thank you, sir
I was planning on getting the t-case along with the tranny
I'm thinking it'll probably be under $500, for both

That's a good price if it's a 4500. Don't forget to grab the steering column covers because the upper piece was discountinued last time I checked. Another thing I remembered is the front outputs on the transfer case changed around that time too. On your 98 it should have a regular yoke but the 95 may or may not have the flat flange type yoke, if it does grab the front driveshaft with it, the rear driveshaft will be fine no differences there.

thanx steamroller, I didn't get the steering column cover, it was gone already but there and the front output yoke is the same as what I currently have so I'm hoping my front driveshaft will be good to go.

AtomicHoe, I'm debating on it. It'll probably be another 2-3 months before I get around to doing putting all of the parts together cuz I was hoping to rebuild the tranny and t-case and figure out other crap but my "impatientness" may get the best of me and I may drop everything in there as a "test run"

btw, I got the tranny, t-case, bellhousing, slave/master cylinder, cluth pedal & hanger, rear driveshaft (I took the whole shaft cuz I couldn't get the rear slip-yoke disconnected), and crossmember for $542
