I posted last week about my new 20" GMC wheels that came with brand new tires. The tires were Goodyear Eagle LS2's and indeed were brand new though I did not catch how old they were.
Well since driving with them I had become very aware of the front end shimmy I was feeling at certain speeds and just how it seemed that I really felt every little imperfection in the road. I thought some of it had to be because of the larger diameter wheels and lower profile tires and that with the new wheels & tires I was also paying much more attention to the feel of them. I decided to read reviews of the Goodyears on tirerack.com and found more than one review that said they were hard to get and/or keep balanced. So I decided to just go ahead and get new tires.
I had Discount Tire put some General Grabber UHP's (275/55-20) on today and man, what a difference. On the short ride back to work I was able to get it up to 70mph for a brief stretch and did not feel any shimmy and overall it felt much smoother. I will be able to get a better feel for them on the way home tonight but so far I am very pleased with them.
