So this afternoon I'm paying my January parts bill to my shop, and I do a quick lookup to see how much I've spent maintaining my three Daily Driver vehicles.

In the past 18 months, I've spent a little over $9000 in parts between the three rigs. I don't mean Over The Counter $$, I mean the same price our auto repair shop pays for parts and then resells. And I pay nothing for labour. That figure really doesn't even count the $$ I spend on mods.

That seems a bit exccessive to me.. I was shocked to see that figure being so high. I'm trying to determine if that is typical or am I being really **** about keeping my rigs in top shape?

So how about it? What do you guys figure you spend on maintenance [NOT MODS] over a year?

In the past year...
Full brakes, pads, rotors, shoes and drums, and hardware kits, $165
Pitman arm, idler arm, tie rod ends and alignment, $125 plus $175 for labor
Cap, rotor, plugs, wires, fuel filter and clamps for a leaking oil cooler line, $125
Windshield wipers, $15
Gallon of Seafoam, $60
Oil changes, 5 @ $18 ea = $90

Looks like a grand total of $755, give or take.

This coming year, I need new tires, going to run me about $650. The current set was about the same, have lasted me 3 years. Also going to be doing some bodywork, and most likely doing a bedliner-type coating over the whole truck, should be under $450 for everything. New headlights and taillights, going to be another $125.

It helps that a buddy is the manager at an auto parts store, he has an account I can use, parts are at cost, no markup.

It's hard to say, I've never had any thing catastrophic go wrong with my truck, and I do all the work myself.. sometimes my dad helps me out if I need it. (he's a major gear head). I've never taken it to a shop and had anything fixed in the nearly 5 years I've owned it. No lie. I've taken it in to get a scan but that's about it. All in all, it doesn't cost me too much.. oil changes, drivetrain maintenence, etc. However, thats probably about to change now that a make some good ass money haha

Last year, not much, about 6 oil changes at $25 average, fuel filter, cap rotor wires... that's it. So, $400 for the year.

Year before that is a whole 'nother story. Two front wheel bearings (in AK) $250 a piece, 4 u-joints at $20 a piece, cv-shaft $150, coolant flush and fill $30, tranny service $90, intake gasket fix $400, serpentine belt $90. Plus oil at (5 changes) at $30 change equals closer to around $1500

Oh I forgot to mention that last year I spun out and that cost me a new set of tires, an axleshaft, and a rim, all told about $1300 for that little muck up.:Boo:

Thanks for the feedback! I've realized that I'm not that nuts after all. Actually I came home and my wife told me to calm down.

She figured that $9k divided by three vehicles is $3000 for the Yukon over 18months, so the Yukon's maintenance costs for just one year would be ~$2000.

$2k per vehicle per year doesn't seem that bad. And I do put alot of kms on my trucks each year. I'm about to expire my crate motor's 60,000km, 3yr warranty after only 1.5 years.

And I subscribe to the if it makes noise or rattles, it should be replaced theory. I maintain each vehicle to safety certificate status or better at all times what with the amount of Hwy travel we do.

Ok, I'm not nuts. I can live with that.
Thanks guys.
