What battery to get as a second battery and eBay ** alternator

Hey so I am in the process of installing a second battery for my car. I am trying to figure out what kind of second battery to get. I was thinking of going lead acid deep cycle battery since its a whole a lot cheaper and the battery will be in the engine compartment rather then getting a amg deep cycle. Any reason I should not do that. Also what brand battery would you guys suggest. Finally does anyone have experience with the Ebay ** alternators they are a whole lot cheaper but not sure how reliable they are. Thanks in advance everyone

Lead acid batteries are fine as long as you get a quality brand, stay away from the walmart type batteries. Deep cycle batteries are designed to be severely discharged and recharged as they are primarily used to power accessories. Depending on what you are doing you might be able to go with a standard lead acid battery with a higher cranking amp, it really is up to you and your use. As far as the alternator, I'd stay away from Ebay parts like this. For every 1 person that has a Great success story, there is usually 5 that would refute that. I'd recommend staying with someone local, for when the time comes and there is an issue, you have a near by point of contact and you can see if its something easily fixed and/or something covered by warranty.

I added a second battery, and used the same size and chemistry as the original battery. I prefer AGM (absorbed glass mat) batteries, because they do not leak, hence they don't corrode the terminals and battery tray. Nor do they require maintenance. These reasons alone are worth the extra cost to me. I've found that AGM batteries perform better than wet cell lead acid batteries also. I do not use the Optima brand, however.
