What did you do to your NBS GMT800 Tahoe/Yukon Today?

I don't plan on drag racing this thing, and from my limited research it's the best cam for low rpm torque. I've been thinking about the dorman intake manifold, but I haven't been able to find any testing on it. Was looking at the ebay aluminum ones too, but I read that it will move the powerband up in the rpm. I should probably just clean up the stock one, but it's so ugly, and shaving it seems like quite a bit of work, lol.

Best intake manifold at this level is the NNBS/TBSS. If it's too ugly for you, close the hood and go for a drive to make you forget about it.

This is the one I have, but didn’t have the time to research the parts I need to convert it before I moved. So I have a NIB TBSS / NNBS intake, as well as an NNBS fuel rail, new heads, cam, etc.. but the intake is just sitting in its box. :(

It depends on if you have the drive by cable or drive by wire. For drive by cable you need a chineese 92mm throttle body and a fuel pressure regulator, or I see some guys cramming a corvette filter on there. Lol
Drive by wire needs this thing called an x-link, I heard people saying it was pricey.

@iamdub iwasn't sure if my mild build would even benefit enough from the new style intake for it to be worth it. I'm just gonna run this gen 3 for now, and maybe upgrade later. I was thinking about getting one of these covers for the ugly factor, lol. But the gen 3 does look decent after I cleaned it.

Long time creeper- first time post

We have had this '04 Tahoe LT since 2006 and it has been used as a daily driver, toddler hauling, and pulling the trailer. We upgraded the Wiff a few years back to a 2019 Yukon and she has been neglected ever since (the Hoe not the Wiff). She has been maintained but mostly just sat. I finally got some time to start getting her back into shape, so this is what I did the past two weeks- not just today.

1. New headlight assemblies, LED fog, LED tails, LED interior door lights
2. New Sony head unit, usb plug retrofit, back up camera, Viper Alarm/auto start, and 4 inch short-antenna
3. Complete inside/out detail
4. New headliner and dash grab handle
5. New Driver side OEM matching top & bottom covers with bottom heater from the Seat Shop
6. AVS vent shades and bug guard
7. Rear passenger window actuator

On the list for the next two weeks

1. I have 2013 Chevy stock 18's (currently sitting on stock 16's) to put on her but waiting until:

2. NNBS brake upgrade- waiting on the new AC delco gold rotors to come this weekend
3. wanting to give her a little 3" lift (would definitely appreciate any recommendations here because I haven't purchased anything yet)
4. New windshield wiper fluid reservoir and pumps (waiting so everything is out of the way and easier)

The original one is fine, but the Gen4 one would still be an upgrade and would complement that cam. You're not flowing enough to warrant rec-port heads and intake. Besides, those would mostly just increase mid- and upper-RPM power.

I need to figure out how to get all of this carbon off the inside of the intake today.


I bought a bunch of cans of Super Tech foaming engine degreaser from Walmart and filled my manifold with foam. After a few minutes of soaking and the foam settling, I scrubbed every port with baby bottle brushes. I sprayed Super Tech brake parts cleaner behind the TB and into each port, scrubbed again then sprayed it with water from the hose through each port to flush it. I stood it up, laid it upside down, etc. while spraying to get the water to come out everywhere. I did this whole process a few times until the water flushing out was clean. Then I blew it out with the Dirty Harry blow gun. Never removed the TB or MAP sensor.
