I want to find a GMT800 to turn into a nice family ride and I am curious on what I need to be aware of with these trucks. I have been looking online and it seems to me that a truck with about 120k-150k miles will run about $9-$10k. Does this seem about right? What I want is a rust free (not too hard in Alabama) 4x4, leather interior, third row seat, reasonable mileage. I figure that as long as the body is good and the interior is not trashed beyond new carpets and seat covers that I can rebuild the engine and transmission for a reasonable price and end up with a great vehicle to last for quite awhile. Now I ask for y'all to share anything I might need to know as I start searching for a project.

Thanks

My dad , and a lot of my family members and friends own GMT800s. Engines and trannys seem to hold up quite well. 200k is an easy number to get to. Main weakness seems to be the fuel and water pumps. But then again, that can be said about every Chevy ever.
One thing I have noticed is that people don't (typically) rag out the newer tahoes. Even the Z71s. So as far as finding one in good shape, no rust and reasonable mileage, shouldn't be much of a problem.

Oh, and :welcome: from Fairhope Alabama!

For 10K you should be able to find one with 100K miles or less. I have an 03 Escalade for sale w/ 83K miles for 10K. As long as you find one well taken care of, they will last a long time.

That wouldnt buy an 03 Tahoe will less than 100k n the odometer in my local market. Interesting to see just how drastically different prices can be for similar vehicles.

around here you wont find an 03+ with 100 or less for under $10 unless its a very low equipped model. and it will be ragged out.

Well I'd happily drive mine down to the South to sell it for asking... Local dealer offered me $8000 in trade which is right around the MMR here. Perhaps you should look outside your market a little because you could have your pick of vehicles with that budget in the Northeast.

Just a random example found on CL (and from a Chevy dealer); http://newjersey.craigslist.org/ctd/4294816688.html

I pick up my 06 Yukon with 54K miles for $9,500.00 Look and look... Good deals come along...

To be honest right now people is asking more money because people is getting their Tax Returns... I am looking to buy a Motorcycle and asking prices are about 25% higher right now...
