What's that compressor sound in my roof? (New to my 2002 Yukon XL)

I'm five days new to my 2002 Yukon XL SLT, and love it so far.

When I start it up, some sort of electric motor rattles away right over my head (driver's side front.), and stays on for a 2-5 minutes.

What is it?

If I reach up and push on the little thumb size "speaker" grill over the driver's head, the sound changes as if some electric motor isn't properly mounted behind the headliner.

Could it he the auto-ride compressor? In the *roof*?

Hints: The sound doesn't change with either heater fan speed. The sound stops 2-5 minutes after start up. I have no sunroof ;) IF I turn the key off, it winds slowly to a stop (in a few seconds) as if it has some momentum. This is an SLT with tow package, onStar, and 152K miles.

Thanks for any wisdom.

(and any other advise as I leave tomorrow hauling five adults and a large dog through 2,000 miles of Oregon and North Idaho)

It's a sensor for your climate control, nothing to worry about and is a very common problem!

Mine does it too, it's not noticeable unless your sitting in the truck with the key on and everything else off. I was working with a tuner trying to get my shift points where I like then and heard this annoying little noise above my head.

I've done the air trick a few different times on mine and it doesn't do any good but you might have better luck than me! Luckily, it only does it every so often so I don't care!

Truth. The air and silicon spray (and then air again) did little last night. I'm sure I'll be thinking of other things after mile 100.
