I think the esky exhaust is a little bigger, because they have a 6.2, in your Tahoe you could have a 4.8 or a 5.3. So he has a bigger engine and a bigger exhaust than you.

What year is your tahoe? Yes, the 6.2 does make it louder. But the pipe size on the Escalade/Denali is larger giving it a deeper sound. I added this to my 2004 Denali and I LOVE it!

Here is a video I made. The first part in the parking garage isn't the best, but when the video goes to outside, you can hear it better. Check my related videos too, there are 2 more if you're interested.

While those things are obvious, I think there should still be a fairly easy solution.

I haven't even looked under my wife's Sept. 2009 build, but I am betting that if you:

Remove the stock muffler, replace with Flowmaster 50 for sound (or a straight-through Magnaflow, since apparently you can gain HP on these trucks with a muffler or catback....LOL, I am used to avoiding paying $800 to gain 2HP)
Remove the resonator
Run 3" from muffler to 3.5" single tip

Sounds pretty good, but it is a little too quiet for me. What is the size of the motors and stock pipe diameter in the 2004s?

JasonS, IMO if you are going to spend money to change the exhaust, aftermarket (vs stock escalade) would be the way to go. If you want to keep costs low, just replace the muffler and remove the resonator (NNBS). There are no real performance gains with a catback type alone.

Check out the Corsa Touring or Sport. Sounds like this is what you are looking for.

I put a Volant CAI and removed the resonator on my truck and it is just enough. And it sounds like a damn UFO when you stand on it!!
