In searching for new wheels and tires for my Yukon I have come across a lot of conflicting information related what sizes I can switch to. For example the stock 20's typically go with a 275/55 tire and if you go up to a 24 my understanding is you need to decrease the tire height to a 35 or 40. Though every tire shop has given me a different answer - one place said you can throw any size that fits in the wheel well while others have told me there is a maximum height inclusive of rim and tire that is safe. Not being an expert I am wondering if some folks here can chime in and possibly summarize what options are available as you go from a 20 inch rim to 22 to 24, etc.

There are quite a few diff. Variations you can do depending on the look you want.

Street/lowered or stock-

275/55/20
305/50/20-wider and about same height

285/45/22- stock GM size for 22's
305/40/22- wider and about same height.
305/45/22- good if plan on keeping stock height or just lowering rear 1-2"

295/35/24
305/35/24
285/40/24- a little large, may need to do some trimming and def. no lowering kit maybe 1" at most in rear only.

Off road/lifted look 2" leveling on front

275/60/20
305/55/20

If you plan on going this route with 22 or 24's let me know and I will find you a good size.

My question as well. Also the width of the wheels, such as the KMC Slides are 24x9.5 will the wheels still tuck like the factory 20x9's or do you need some offset which I am clueless about.

The slides only come in 2 offsets in that size and that is +18 or +25 for our trucks you will want/need the +25 for them to fit best.

With 22's you would want the +38.

Will the +25 offset still tuck under fenders and not stick outside of the fender?

Yeah it should fit perfect. You might look around on here and talk to one of the guys that is running it. I think (Blkdout) member here, I think he has ran that before.

Thanks for the reply and great info. One concern I have is going too low profile for driving in the snow that my rims get destroyed or the truck does not handle as well. Would you say there is a minimum tire height to go with if this is a factor? My truck came with 305/35/24's and it just looks like the rims will get trashed in the snow.

I had 305 35 24 and drove them threw snow nothing wrong as long as you keep them clean your all good

Will the 305 40r22 fit without rubbing at full lock? Thanks
I have 305 45 22 and I'm lowered and have minor rubbing
So the 40 series wouldn't be a problem
