Glad you're ok. Watching your wheel go past you or watching your boat go past you are bad feelings once you realize it's your boat. I can vouch for checking lugs. I had a new set of wheels put on and the shop said to come back in about a week to retorque the lugs. Well, I had a senior moment and didn't go back. We were heading on a couple hundred mile trip so I did my normal oil check, coolant, tire pressure, etc then remembered the lugs. On every wheel at least 2 were loose enough for me to tighten with my fingers about 2 turns and most of the others needed at least 2 more turns with the torque wrench.

Back in the early 70's I almost had something similar happen to me, I was coming home from work and as I would make a turn, forget now if it was a left or right turn I would feel a slight vibration. Lucky for me there was a tire shop along the way. I stopped in there to see if they could tell me if they could see any reason for the vibration, well as soon as they got it in their 'shop' area and on a jack they instantly saw what was wrong. They brought me back there to show me that all the lug nuts on one of the wheels had become loose and was allowing the steel wheel to 'wiggle' around as I would make a turn. That cost me a new wheel, and a lesson to once in a while check the lug nuts if something doesn't 'feel' right.
Same exact thing happened to me. Lived in Pa and worked in NJ, 100 miles each way, 200 miles round trip. Leaving work taking turns to get to rte 80 I was feeling and hearing the same vibration and it was just getting worse. I finally pull over and there's only 1 lug and 1 stud left. I tightened the lug and I took another lug from another wheel and put it on, you couldn't even call it a stud, what was left was maybe 1 thread left on a nub. I was able to get a lug on there, so all I had was 1 and 1/8 of a lug. Drove 100 miles like that, pulling over frequently to check.
