I have a whining sound from engine. I thought it was the fan belt but I replaced it and it only quieted the noise slightly. Has anyone had or heard of this problem.

im not sure on my thought but i think i have read somethin somewhere were some of us (yukons, burbs, hoes) have service bulletins on what u are describing... i have an 01 kon with the 5.3 and 230xxx miles on it and when its really cold or high humidity my belts squeal like a ***** and i find it rather embarrassing.. but it has somethin to do with one or some of the pulleys being out of alignment which would require some sort of laser alignment tool.. and as far as ur wiring issue i have no clue

As far as the whining noise goes, it could be a idler or tensioner pulley for the drive belt. Or maybe you have a p/s pump, alt, water pump going out. Disconnect the drive belt and spin each pulley. If you can hear the noise or feel "grinding" repalce that pulley or part.
Not sure what to tell you about the electrical problem. sorry

Not sure... did the tranny wine change when switching gears or was it a constant whine.

Excellent advice there. My old GMC Canyon squealed like no other, and ended up being the idler pulley.

100% postivie its coming from the engine? Its not a whine thats coming through the speakers or anything? Could be a ground issue. Just making sure you covered all the bases.

Mine began when I changed alt. idler and tensioner. Not sure which one it is, I'm thinking cheap after market alt.
