I have an '03 Tahoe (5.3L) and it makes a whistle sound right after I give it some throttle. Does it no matter if it's in drive, park, or reverse. I can't tell if it is a normal sound or what but it doesn't sound normal. It almost sounds like there is a whistle stuck in the intake somewhere and you can hear it when you rap the throttle. It is loud enough to hear both inside and outside. It sounds like it is coming somewhere within the intake manifold. Any guesses? No drivability issues whatsoever, just that noise.

Do you have a CIA on it? (cold air intake)

If so they will make it sound like it's "whistling"

Also if there is a throttle body spacer, I've heard of those making it whistle too........

Is this whistle coming from the engine bay area or from inside like a speaker? A bad ground could cause engine whine and it sounds like a low whistle. Check what the other guys said too and let us know if you figure it out

It's all stock and the noise is definitely coming from the engine bay. I will try to see if I can pinpoint where it is coming from.

Try spraying some carb cleaner around the air box and also the snorkel tubing and throttle body while it is running, if the idle changes while spraying a spot, then you have a leak there! Might be the lid not sealing properly on the air box, just some ideas!!

I actually had the same thing.. Thought it was the intake... Replaced the intake gaskets.. STILL same thing.. Believe it or not, I actually read somewhere (TSB maybe?) that this comes from the P.S Pump...
