Hi - I'm a newbie here. I've been looking for a used Silverado or Sierra with about 100K miles on it. In the process I found a 2003 Yukon SLT with 118K miles for $9,800. The person who owned it takes good care of their vehicles. So I'm really thinking about the Yukon.

So I've got two basic questions. Why do you love your Yukon? And is there anything about the 2003 model I should be aware of regarding reliability? I'd love to get between 100K and 150K more miles on it.

Thanks,
Rob

You can do a search and find that the tranny, intake manifold gasket and wheel hubs are the weak points in this series. Certain parts of the tranny especially like those stupid plastic accumulators I think. Anyway, you can do a search on those 3 areas and see for yourself. Despite that I love my yuk cuz it gets me from point A to B in any weather (in comfort I might add), can tow my other vehicle if need be, and it is SAFE...in an MVA with another vehicle, size DOES matter, and I feel better knowing my Yuk is over 2.5 tons with good metal bumpers (unfortunately, I 've already had this tested and Yukon did win) Oh, and welcome to TYF! I got 140k miles on it and hope to take it to 200k and beyond ( I am the original owner)

Why do I like my Yuk?

Here it goes (not necessarily in this order):

- It's looks
- It is rugged
- Easy to work on/modify
- Has ALL the room I need PLUS more
- Made in America
- The kids like riding in it, as they are high up and can see the road as well as everything around it
- It has never let me down
- Takes me to the snow in the winter
- Takes me to the River Bank or Lake Shore in the summer
- Has the capability to tow everything and anything I would ever tow

-----> And it let's me be part of this awesome TY Forum

If properly taken care off and maintained, it will go 200K PLUS miles.

Need more?

I bought my 03 with 150k last year. no complaints yet...knock on wood. plus, it shares parts with with Tahoes, yukon XLs, Suburbans,1500 chevy trucks and 1500 GMC trucks. So parts are available if you need replacements or upgrades. Auto parts stores always have items in stock.

cant beat the space for kids. In the winter, heated seats, a great heater, 4wd,

Only downside is its thirsty. and i wish it came with a duramax!

i wish it came with a duramax!

ive been saying this since the day i bought mine! the main reason i got mine is the comfort even for bigger guys. i went with the denali for the looks, performance, awd, and its just manly/sporty/classy. my truck does it all, ONLY downside is the gas. my dad got his esky before i got my denali, after driving it a few times i told him i wanted one. "as long as you can keep gas in it, it doesnt get any better!"

Looks great and shatters every GM stereotype from the 80s & 90s.

Thanks for the great replies. Regarding the transmission issues, should I consider a different year, or is that going to be an issue with any Yukon over a few years old?

Gotta have a V8, with all these crossovers and stuff I love still having an SUV with a V8. Since it basically has the same frame as the GM Trucks it basically is a truck that holds more people and looks better IMO. Plus it is big and a very safe vehicle. I haven't had any major issues with mine except for the fuel pump going out around 120K and that was partially my fault for running so low and completely out of gas!

Love all the room as well as the safety of such a big vehicle.
Can't remember if it was posted here or elsewhere, but some posted a story of a Tahoe being in a rollover and of the three or four people inside only one had some pain in their side. That made me feel good should I ever be in that situation.
