Hello All,

Quick question...I changed my exhaust to the Magnaflow single and was curious if changing the exhaust would make the transmission hold gears longer.

When braking...sometimes I will notice the gear being held for quite some time before it changes, and will also downshift a little abruptly right before stopping. You can hear the RPM's stay up for longer when breaking and accelerating. I don't know if this was the case before my exhaust...I really noticed it after my new exhaust because I could physically hear the gear being held longer. I hope this makes sense...if it doesn't SORRY...lol

Also, I feel some pulsating in my brakes at low speeds while stopping, and the pads have begun squeeling...is this a sign of warped rotors?

I just got the Tahoe about 3 months ago and it was certified!!! I do not drive hard at all.

What year is your truck? I have an '09 Tahoe with the new 6 speed, and I HATE the transmission. Hate it for the same reason your stated right here.

I think that the answer to your question is no. But, with programming, apparently a BlackBear (or other) tune can change the behavior of the tranny.

I think that's my only hope.

And yes, squealing brakes is almost always a sign that you're due for some new ones.

It is a 2008 LTZ with 37,*** miles. Did the tahoes have 6 speed trannies in 2008?

I don't think so. I think they were new in '09. Maybe someone else can confirm/deny that.

The tranny in my '02 was perfectly fine. This tranny, though it may help gas mileage and whatnot, is intrusive and annoying.

jkc350z: 6 spd showed up in the '09s. It does seem like at low speeds (< 30 mph) as you slow for a stop, that it holds a lower gear than the 4 spd. IOW it seems to downshift as you slow.

Warped rotors will cause a pulsing sensation in the pedal. Overtightening the lug nuts can cause warped rotors. Squealing could either be glazed pads or the warning scrapers that signal it's about time for pad replacement. How many miles?

37,***...almost 38k miles.

I bought the car at 33k miles and it was certified. I didnt think I'd be having these issues so soon.

Warped rotors seems to be a common problem on the NBS Tahoes based upon what I've seen on all of the forums.

I noticed the same thing with my Transmission. I installed a Corsa Tourning and it seemd to hold the gears longer and right when I'm about to stop I hear it change and I'll feel a slight jolt which makes me press the brakes harder. It seems like the increase in Exhaust flow may cause the O2 sensor to trigger something. I don't know.

That's exactly what I feel. And I don't like it at all. I find myself concentrating on feathering the brakes so that I don't send my passenger through the windshield. That's not the way a tranny should be. It's more the braking behavior than the accelerating that I don't like (although I don't like the accelerating behavior, either).
