I want to get my front windows tinted. It appears by the factory stamps on the windows that the front sides are 70% glass and the backseat sides are 25% glass.

Does anyone know what % you end up with when you put 35% film over the factory 70% glass?

Florida limit is 28. We don't get inspected but I'd like to stay legal.

I do not want the fronts to be darker than the back!!!

My best option at the place I want to have them done is 35%, next one down is too dark... 20%

Not sure if I need to find a place that has 30%?

The factory 70% is basically clear. See if you can find specs for the brand of tint you are getting that say what the tint measures at when applied to clear glass. I know 3M usually has that info. It will say something like 35% film but measures at 32% on glass.

I'm guessing that you probably couldn't get away with 30% if you want to stay above the legal 28% as measured.

I believe they use SunTek but I'm not positive about that or which line of SunTek product. That would make sense because Suntek jumps from 35% to 20% in all of their products. I'll have to check on this tomorrow and follow up. I did not even consider what product they are using, my decision to go there is based on convenience and the fact that they look like they'll stay in business... warranty and such.

Anyone with 35% on the front have any feedback and/or pics?

With 35% on my windows I still measure in the 32-35% range. You will be way above 28%

I say 5%, then 20% on that, then add that to all the windows including the backs. That equals... No sunglasses needed.

What I have found around me is that the meters can vary wildly depending on the weather and who knows what else. If 28 is legal then do 30 and you will be happy.

Thanks, I agree. I need to be patient and find a shop that does 30 and uses good film. Going to call around a bit when the shops open...

I found a shop 30 minutes away that has 3M FX premium in both 25 and 30%. I know it's not 3M's best film but the higher end ones don't have that percentage available. I'm rained out at work, so I'm on my way there now. Going to have to decide on my way whether to go with 25 or 30. It looks like the 25 transmits 26% which should match my rears perfectly. It's close enough to the Florida limit of 28 that without inspections in Florida I don't think it's going to be a problem legally.
