I have had a car come out of nowhere at a 4-way stop a couple times in my 02, hiding behind the passenger a-pillar so it happens. Glad you’re ok Brett.
I can see the passenger side A pillar being more of a hindrance when stopped at a cross street. It's more to your right and in line to where you're looking.

The drivers A pillar is more in front of you and nowhere near where you look when looking for traffic coming from the left, unless you are driving like grandma with your head sitting on top of the steering wheel. I'm 6' and sit back in the seat when driving, not hunched over the wheel.

Agreed. I have never had a problem with that one.

Well, I have. It was a pedestrian who was in the shadows and remained hidden behind the left A-pillar as I was turning left. I did not hit him, but it was close. I would have never believed it until it happened to me.

Did not even see him as he was right in my A -Piller blind spot when I looked left (after I was locating the bicyclist position, when I got to the stop sign)

also i thought I should mention I had a premonition moments before that i was "going to crash." that was my first thought as soon as I entered the SUV

Worst luck or just lucky?? View attachment 278035

WTF: This person was flying...If they had wings they'd have been airborne. It wasn't luck, you were Blessed.

there is too many factors i.e seat angle how far the suv is from the stop line to even come to that conclusion.. also from the video the guy was changing lanes from the middle lane...

the seat is all the way back... if you wanted to know..

As I said before, I had to teach myself to wobble forwards and backwards to peer around the A pillar after I had a close call. It took 30 years of driving to encounter a freak incident. Fortunately in my case, I did hit anything either. I considered it a lucky lesson.

When I was a kid I was taught to look left, then right, then left again before crossing the street. I apply the same technique when driving. Lol

That is sound advice. But when you have a moving object that just happens to stay in your blind spot while you are moving as well (a freak occurrence), ...

When I was doing my left turn, the pedestrian began in the shadows, my light turned green so i inched forwards, scanning left and right just in case a vehicle decided to blow the red light, the pedestrian just happened to walk at the perfect speed to remain behind the A pillar, even as I was beginning my turn. All this time, I'm scanning left and right, moving slowly. Then suddenly I see the pedestrian right at my front bumper.

The guy was swearing tons at me. I don't blame him because he probably thought I was being a pr**k.

The other thing I tell my kids is to make sure you can see the eyes of the drivers when crossing a street. If you can't see their eyes (if they're behind the a pillar for example), they won't be able to see you and not even know you are there. Of even worse, if they are looking at a cell phone making a "quick check" for a text, they won't see you either.

That’s exactly how I was taught to DRIVE! Lol. Especially here in Southern California! People be crazy....
that being said I have never had anything obstructed by my a pillar. I sit too far back because I’m 6 feet tall as well and it doesn’t obscure my view.
