That’s exactly how I was taught to DRIVE! Lol. Especially here in Southern California! People be crazy....
that being said I have never had anything obstructed by my a pillar. I sit too far back because I’m 6 feet tall as well and it doesn’t obscure my view.

Sitting far back doesn't eliminate the blind spot. I repeat, I would have never believed it until it happened to me. It took 30 years of driving before I experienced it.

I can see the drivers A pillar only being a problem if at an intersection and turning left, and a person or bicyclist was crossing/going straight from the opposite direction, basically coming towards you but in the other lane. The A pillar is more at 11 o'clock, doesn't block your side view, only the edge of your front view

Did not even see him as he was right in my A -Piller blind spot when I looked left (after I was locating the bicyclist position, when I got to the stop sign)

also i thought I should mention I had a premonition moments before that i was "going to crash." that was my first thought as soon as I entered the SUV

Worst luck or just lucky?? View attachment 278035

Brent, I just looked at the video again. Are you sure you meant the A pillar? From the angles I could see, if he was blocked by the A pillar he was already there. Did you mean the B pillar (between the front and rear seats)? I could understand this.

With the wide angle lens, it's difficult for me to see if the intersection is a T or a Y type. It looked more like a Y intersection with the narrow angle to your left. This would make an A pillar blind spot only applicable for a pedestrian crossing the street from the opposite direction.

Also, I have learned to never trust drivers to not change lanes in an intersection. Even drivers approaching from the left planning to turn right, I wait until they are actually turning before I start. And Chase, I've been in S Ca as well, and you're right, drivers are crazy. But drivers are just as nuts up here in BC.

its a T intersection the sun visor was straight down... look out the glass with it like that yes you can only see 15- 20 feet in front of you with it like that.

Why on earth would you NOT have full coverage?!? For a vehicle as expensive as our rigs that’s insanity!!!

I'm curious about your insurance rates Chase. My trucks aren't worth the paper the title is printed on, according to insurance. I could total either one and get less than 1 year's worth of premiums. If you put that extra money away instead....

I don’t have full coverage on any of my vehicles. I haven’t had an at-fault accident in 30 years or more. That’s a lot of savings in premiums, enough to buy my trucks a couple times. But then I haven’t financed anything in forever too so I don’t have a bank telling me what to do.
