Yakima pod on a Denali factory rack?

How have others mounted a Yakima (or Thule) pod the roof of a Denali? With the factory rack and crossbars, the clamp legs of the Yak that go under the crossbars and clamp the pod in place hit the roof. Lent the Denali to my ex over the holidays, mounted the Yak for her, but with all the stuff she and the kids loaded into the pod, the clamp pieces hit the roof. I put vinyl tape on the sheetmetal and then foam padding (the stuff that pickups use when mounting a cap on a pickup bed) to protect the paint. But it was a total PITA to do it.
I see cross bars for Yakima and Thule racks for regular Yukons and Tahoes, but nothing made for the Denali factory rack. I'm open to any ideas.
