Hello all. I'm looking into exhaust options for my 05 Z71 Tahoe. I had a Corsa on my 03 and I know that's the best choice for good sound with no drone, but at the moment I don't have the funds to spring for the Corsa. I'm looking at either Flowmaster or Magnaflow, just the muffler welded in place of the stocker. I like the sound of the super 44, just concerned with the drone. Looking for input from members who have put one of these exhausts in place of the stock muffler. Thanks in advance!

My wife's Tahoe has the Flowmaster super 50 Series SUV and there is next to no drone, and that is with free flow cats!

Check out the Jones Muffler lineup. I just did the same thing you're thinking about and had a shop cut out the stock one and weld a different one. I got the MF2288 which was a close configuration to the stock muffler, 3" in and dual 2.5" out. The part number is MF2288, full stainless construction and only 59.95 shipped on ebay. It has a very deep tone, doesn't cackle or backfire on decel and yet its pretty aggressive at WOT. I love it and will be re-using it when I fab up a complete new custom exhaust for it this summer when the headers go on.

Jones has many different configurations and baffling types also.

A coworker of mine had a super 44 installed on his yukon, sounded freakin awesome outside but inside it was painful! Save up some coin and get yourself a Corsa, love my sport!

Never heard of Jones.... Sounds appealing lol. How's the drone?

I can do 50-80 mph down the highway and not hear any drone at all. It's a mellow tone but very deep sounding, kinda sounds like an older big block muscle car. If it gets to around 2500-2700 rpm it has a little bit of drone but then its gone right away as you keep accelerating. It's just in the one spot in the rpm range but even then, it's not horrible.

Really like the sound of this muffler. It's exactly what I was looking for because I really don't care for the super loud systems, or cackling, popping sounds on decel etc... I've only had it installed for about a month but I can't wait to ditch the cats and install the longtubes with it. Should have a pretty good bark at WOT.

Here are some pics that I took of it when I first got it. If you're familiar with 4th Gen fbody exhaust systems you might be familiar with the SLP "2 on the left" system. This muffler is almost exactly like that muffler and sounds very similar which is the sound I was going for. You can search "SLP 2 on the left" on youtube for some sound clips. Notice how free flowing the muffler is.

This version of the Jones muffler is a MagnaFlow knock off. I'm going with the exact same muffler (MF2588) on my Tahoe. Actually just dropped it off at the shop. They are doing Flowmaster Shorty Headers, this Jones muffler and I'm swapping in some AP aftermarket heavy load converters that will flow a little better than the stock converters. Gonna pick it up in a few days when it's done.

This setup shouldn't drone much but if it does I'll try to squeeze in a short resonator.

Nice man. I love the tone of this muffler. Mine only has a slight drone sound at around 2400-2600 rpm. When I'm on the highway (1800-1900 rpm), I don't hardly hear the exhaust at all. It's exactly what I wanted.
