Hello dear all,

I have a Yukon 2004 4.8l rear wheel drive truck that has a strange thing for me which is draining drops of fluid about half of a litter or more if i leave it more days after removing the battery leaving it in park for about 10 days specially in summer which is very hot about 50C , but it is not draining any fluid drops when i connect the battery again and use it,
I am sure that it is not draining transmission fluid while driving or when it is parked for small periods less than 7 or 10 days.

Also i think that the fluid was burned and i did not know when the last time it was changed but i suctioned out about two litters each three months adding new fluid instead of the suctioned two litters.

Do you recommend suctioning it completely then adding new fluid without removing the filter?

Do you recommend just a fluid change draining the fluid while changing the filter without complete flushing of all fluid?

Do you recommend flushing the fluid completely after doing a suction for all the fluid without removing the filter then later after three months i do a complete flush of all fluid and changing the filter?

Thank you in advance for you help.

If you are leaking fluid changing it out won't really do anything for you. Can you try and determine where the fluid is dripping from and then grabbing a flashing and trying to trace it as best you can?

If you can't get anything from that you may try some UV dye to more easily find the leak. If you are lucky hopefully it'll be a simple gasket change on your pan, which you will have to do anyway when changing the filter.

If it is burned try not to run it too much when finding the leak. And change both filter and fluid as soon as you can after finding the leak.

I'd recommend finding the leak first like I said earlier. That way if it's a gasket or something you can fix it while changing the fluid. That way you won't waste fresh fluid finding a leak then possibly having to drain it all to fix said leak.

There aren't a lot of places were the leak could be. Pan gasket, servo seal, rear seal, fill tube, vent tube, wire harness, cooler lines. Puddle location should rule out half.

Probably need to see what's in the pan to decide if there is a bigger problem or not. Disconnect upper tran house from radiator, connect clear vinyl hose in place on the radiator and clamp to large bucket. Turn engine on and pump out about a gallon turn off engine. Drop pan, inspect for any larger pieces and stuff stuck to magnet. Replace filter and pan, add oil, then run engine again, keep adding oil(as old oil is pumped out), until you see new red coming out of vinyl hose. Measure what's in the bucket vs what you put in and adjust accordingly, then use hatch marks on dip stick to fine tune.
