Hey everyone. I have an opportunity to buy an 09 Yukon Commercial. I am very interested in this vehicle because it has very low mileage, and is in immaculate shape, without a spot of rust on the frame (some minor surface rust, but I am in Canada, and that is pretty much unavoidable). I do want to use this for overlanding, but I don't know anything about the commercial version of the Yukon. It is 4x4, just so you know. Other than it not being a z71, is there anything else I should know about it before taking it off road? Ideally, I would grab a Z71, but this just seems like it would be a perfect fit for what I am looking for. Here is a link to the ad

Thanks!

My guess it’s as capable as a z71 except it’s more utility and less mall crawler for the interior.

I overland a 2011 PPV. Lots of fun. Especially when you see people doing a double take miles from pavement.

Thanks!

Add two skid plates (if they're not already there) and you'll basically have a Z71. Scratch that! You already have the skid plates! All you're missing are the Rancho shocks, can't make out the color but if they are white or red you have them too!

You are set up for running off road, 2-speed transfer case, 3.42 gears, lots of sidewall, have fun!

Oh, don't forget to remove the lower chin spoiler when going off-road! I forgot and it's going to cost me a grand to fix! LOL

Wait, I don't see the lower valance either! Man, that old forestry truck is ready to go! I bet you could add the OE fog lights if the wiring is present by changing the light switch assembly and also noticed that yours does not have the DIC buttons but you can add that pretty easily as well.

This is the first I've heard of 2 skid plates. I only have one metal one covering the oil pan area on our 2011 Z71 (which I removed the other day as it was missing some bolts - picked up some grade 8s from Home Depot as replacement, which I'll be reinstalling with a generous amount of loctite).

Where should the 2nd be located? I just looked under the truck and it seems like there might be a spot in front of the oil pan skid plate. I see a few bolts installed but aren't holding anything (and they look identical to the other skid plate bolts).

There is a plastic splash shield underneath the opening between the radiator and engine, then the metal plate that covers the front differential that you pulled and finally, there's one on the transmission cross member that protects the transfer case. I could make out part of it in the photos in the ad.

Use Blue Loc-tite so you can still pull them easy for maintenance.

Looks like I have 2 of the 3 then. Here's pics for reference:

Front Diff (turns out the missing was due to a stripped nut...):

And where the missing one should be:

Just be sure it has a 2 speed transfer case having a low range can be very useful when off road.

Welcome from Miami Beach Steve.

Looks to be in excellent condition in and out! Hopefully you can get some service records before buying it.
