Yukon vs Yukon xl

I’d been planning on a standard Yukon figuring that was plenty big enough and that the XL would just be way too large for me to drive. But since I sold my minivan while the market was good for me, I’m currently driving my husbands 2018 sierra 2500hd. It’s a crew cab w the standard bed. From what I can find online the Xl is about a foot shorter than the truck I’m in. Does the XL feel as big as a full size truck? I’m telling myself with all the cameras I’ll be fine driving it. Lol. Currently I’m parking at the end of the parking lots

I have an older generation XL and pickup and would say that the XL drives like a smaller vehicle and to me is no different than a Tahoe. The new ones are about 4 inches longer than mine in wheelbase and overall length. Your husband's pickup is nearly 2 feet longer than a new XL! If you can handle that, the XL will be easy peasy. If they have one on the lot, go for a test drive.

the closest one I can find is 700 miles away lol. But I did drive a regular sized one. His truck has the 6.5 ft bed so I think it’s about 240 inches long. I feel like after driving this anything smaller and with all those cameras should feel easy. But prior to this the biggest thing I’ve driven was a Honda Odyssey so it’s a big difference lol

Oh that's right, you're still on the hunt! The transition was easy for us going from Pontiac Montana minivans to the Yukon XL. You'll be fine whichever you choose. My wife wants her own short one, a Denali. We have the other two if we need the extra room.

I have the new 2021 crew pickup and it feels smaller than the Yukon XL. We just rented the new suburban for a month for a family trip. Fantastic truck, rear suspension and tech make it an awesome truck. We also just sold a 2013 suburban which was a daily driver. Hands down the new suburban felt massive in comparision to the other two trucks. It come down to visibility. Drives much nicer and is a great highway hauler. I was in it everyday for 9000 miles and 30 days. I did get used to it, and the overview camera is a must for parking lots and some suburban driving. Its a big truck, although it drives car like. All that said, I will probably be getting a Denali XL when things arent so crazy. I drove both on test drives, I would not give up the extra space, they both feel big, get the XL with cameras. Its also much easier to drive than a 2500 HD.

Have a new YukonXL coming from a 2016 Tahoe, and other than parking in the garage it doesn't seem much bigger. The 360 cameras are awesome though and make parking a breeze. Truly a feature that should be in every car. The extra space inside is a huge improvement. So much more space than our Tahoe

Obviously being able to test drive them back to back would be ideal.

I have always been very comfortable driving something very large so I can’t exactly relate to what you’re feeling. I currently have a Tahoe and a crew cab 8 ft bed Silverado, both last gen. I have had a 2004 Suburban and a Silverado the same size as your Sierra.

All that said… and with the caveat that my experience is with previous gens (cause the new ones did grow)…

1) To me the biggest difference amongst my four examples that affects parking ease is the turning radius, not the actual size of the vehicle.

2) If you’re expecting minivan-level storage, you’ll want the longer Suburban/Yukon XL. The Tahoe and reg Yukon get cramped fast when you start loading up. As they say with boats, “a foot is a mile” when it comes to the storage.

One thing you may like in the XL is having room behind the 3rd row without having to take the seats out. I rarely use my 3rd row but when I need it there’s not much room for stuff. If your new rig has 2nd row captain’s chairs you need the back seat anytime you have more than 4 people. Good luck.

As stated above, if you can drive that pickup truck, then driving either Yukon or Yukon XL will be much easier. I've owned both, and I much prefer the XL, as it provide more flexibility. We know nothing about your family or daily living/activities situation, but if you have a dog(s), or like the outdoors such as camping, or occasionally need to load more than 5 people into a vehicle, or if you have home projects that periodically require transporting sheets of plywood or sheetrock, then the XL is for you.

You will enjoy either one.
