My advise....take the money you would otherwise spend on additives and buy a good quality synthetic oil (I run Mobil 1) and a good quality oil filter and call it a day. IMHO all of that snake oil is a waste of your hard earned money.

I have heard that any oil additiove is a waste of money.

I remember when I first saw that stuff on TV. I thought I could not live without it and wondered how my truck was still running without it.lol

Just another 2c, but I tried Mobil1 and filter against typical dyno oil. No difference in driveability or mileage. Of course, the synthetic change was a good deal more expensive. I'm back to killing dinosaurs. Just not worth the money IMO. Additives in oil especially on a new car are probably money spent money burned. The clearances in these engines don't take advantage of synthetic.

Synthetic oil and an oil additive like Z MAX are two totally different things. The Z MAX stuff is supposed too restore lost power. Unlike Z MAX, synthetic oil actually does have certain benefits. The main one being the extended life of the oil. Royal Purple full synthetic will go 10K without needing a service.

If you maintain your vehicle properly, conventional oil is just fine. I only recommend synthetic if you are towing regularly or real heavy duty driving. BMW goes 15K on Mobil 1!! Not crazy about 6 oil changes in 100K miles but seeing was believing.

Agreed, I get 'itchy' around 3,500 regardless of the type of oil. Old habits are hard to break I guess. I looked at the syn at 3,000 and it was dark and dirty. Probably not the best measure of it's effectiveness but I changed it. I'm religous about changing oil in all my cars, so why not save a buck. Honestly, I'm only at 7K miles and have changed the oil twice already. I don't use additives and I agree it's completely different than syn oil. I tried all this stuff on my first truck when I was 16 and nothing really did much if anything. The combo that worked the best wasn't oil or additives. It was exhaust, intake, and ignition. Not one or the other, but all three combined. Gave me about 5mpg more. Back in the day, I worked for Firestone so I got fat discounts on everything. These days, I'm poo. I can't even afford the 'r'. :hands:
