My rear bumper was painted and they used bulldog adhesion promoter but its still chipping. I have an SS bumper cover on front but will be removing it to put the stock bumper back on.

I found a guy that will treat/prep and powder coat both bumpers gloss black for $150. Seems like a good deal but I havent ever seen a powder coated bumper before. From what I'm told it looks good and can be waxed, etc. just like the painted one. If so I like the idea of doing this b/c it wont chip like the painted one I have now.

Any before and after pics would be great. Thanks.

Do it!! Worst case scenario it chips like paint. Either way, I'm sure you'll be pleased.

I have several parts powder-coated on my motorcycle. PC is at least 10x stronger than paint. The black I have has about 50% gloss. It could have been duller or shinier. On metal parts, IMO, PC is the best and most durable. You can treat it like the chrome. Spray, wash, and dry. No need to wax......

My brother has his 1997 chrome bumpers powdered coated with a textured matte black finish, they looked awesome and he has had them for over 8 months and i just saw him this past weekend and no chips. Still look good as day one. They blasted the bumpers inside and out and then put them through the powdercoat process.

I just gave him the hood off my wrecked 97 tahoe since im rolling the 2002 hoe now.

Ready for those pictures.
I have been wanting black bumpers myself and I really like the OEM bumpers so I didn't want any covers. Tried some paint and it chipped, but I never thought to powder coat them.

How glossy/black are they compared to the body paint?

That looks good, just like paint. We have psyho soccer moms with minivans of death around here so this makes keeping the stock bumpers much more appealing. Can
PC be paint matched?

Wow. That looks really good. A lot more reflective than I thought. Definitely going to have to look into doing this.

you dont paint the powder...you can get almost any color powder you can think of. the common colors (black, white, silver) are the easiest to match. i painted the grill, the upper cap, and bottom valence black to match.

i also bought that lower extension from the dealer for 35 bucks and painted it as well. i love the look. i had the SS bumper on there before but wanted a more stock look. this fits the bill.

That looks great and knowing that it's more durable than paint has to be a major bonus.
