I had an object strike my 2015 Yukon XL when it was about 4 months old. It shattered/crushed a large area just below the roof line of my windshield. I have the forward facing lane tracker/collision avoidance sensor(s) behind the rear view mirror, and "collision avoidance Head up display).
I called my insurance company, (AAA of So Cal) and they called/referred me to SafeLite (I had SafeLite repair a chip in the windshield on my 93 C3500 a few years back and they did a great job, so I was on board).

It took a week to get a GM Windshield (the adjuster even pointed out, because the vehicle was so new, he wanted to make sure it was factory parts, not aftermarket) and SafeLite showed up, removed the old windshield, and installed the new one without any additional issues. He disconnected the battery, and put the new one in, then reattached all of the hardware (the new windshield came with the brackets/mounts attached from the factory). He was done in about 2 hours, did it all by himself with his "special" tools and mounts. I was charged my deductible, less a "discount" for using Auto Club's tech (SafeLite), so it was $200.00. (250.00 deductible, less 50.00 discount for "in house").

I asked the SafeLite guy what it would have cost had I not had insurance and had to pay cash, he said the windshield alone was around 1000.00 and installation would have run between 200-300. So, your posts of 840.00 installed from the dealer seems a bit on, and depending on how you look at it, cheaper? I will say, that the next year when my insurance bill came due, it went up 170.00, it since went back down, but they get their money back one way or another.

Just went through this with my 2017 Denali. Got a star at the beginning of winter had it fixed, but wanted to wait until spring to replace the windshield. Three stars and a 2 foot crack across the center later, glad I waited.

I have State Farm and they sub-out glass claims to LYNX. When, they got to the point where they wanted a shop I wanted to use, I then politely stopped and said ‘I need to make sure I get OEM glass”. At first they said they use “OEM Quality” glass. I politely said no, HUD, rain sensor, etc. and she said OK. Then my shop was not on their “program” list. Politely asked if OR law allows me to choose any shop. Yep! But then they must agree to “negotiate”. WTF, so much BS.

Bottom line: OEM glass going in this week for $100 deductible. Do your homework.

What a nightmare with State Farm / LYNX.

I have been dealing with LYNX this morning as well but it seems no dealerships are willing to accept their initial $39/hr rate for work vs. dealer $149hr rate. I now need to engage LYNX "Bid Team" for them to try to negotiate a deal with my local Chevy Dealer. While I realize there are other replacement glass companies that do this, I want to take this to a dealer to be fully accountable should anything happen to our brand new Tahoe plus all the integrated sensors in the windshield, etc..

Is it just me, or does it seem as though GM windshields are more apt to cracking/breaking?
I've had GM/Chevy's my whole life, and never had a single issue with any type of broken/shattered glass, in spite of being hit a multitude of times with things in the windshield.
The exception to this is, while driving my 93 Crew Cab C3500 on the freeway, in or around 2010, 2011, my windshield was struck by a "flying" gas cap, it put a tiny star in the windshield, (literally about 1/8"), which I had Safelite "fill" with their clear epoxy and it was fine (no spreading, cracking, etc). But I rented a Suburban before I bought my Yukon XL in 2015, and when I went to pick it up from the rental, it had a cracked windshield, (which the previous renters didn't bother to say when they returned it). Then, while driving my Yukon on the freeway, something struck my windshield with enough force to startle both the wife and I, and it shattered. Reading the posts regarding this, I just wonder if the chemical composition of glass has changed, or the thickness in which it's manufactured, or if there's just more cars/flying debris on the road these days. I know the windshield angles have shifted dramatically, from say 75-80 degrees to the 40-60 degrees... I have no idea, just "spitballing" and empathizing with you poor folks having to deal with your cracked windshields, and fighting with your insurance-
As previously posted, it pays to do your homework, and insist on OEM glass, vs. "OEM Quality".

That's good news, glad to hear it. There's no reason NOT to put OEM glass in, (aside from of course the insurance company not wanting to pay for it). Best of luck!
