I'm trying to figure out the difference between the 2 V8s when it comes to gas usage.

Can you guys throw your numbers over the fence?

What engine and what do you get on highway, city, combined?

Try to get a better picture. Thx

2021 Tahoe 4WD with 5.3 and 8,200 miles.

Best MPG I’ve seen is 22.3 but the wind must’ve been pushing me that day.

I typically drive on town on short trips and average about 12 MPG. When I warm up the car on cold winter days when the temp is near zero that drops down to about 10 MPG.

2021 Tahoe 4wd 5.3, 10,500 miles. Country driving, 50-60 mph for 3-4 miles then stop signs and small town driving, average is 17.5 mpg for the entire mileage of vehicle. My 2019 Silverado has 5.3 and with 34,000 miles the avg was 17.9 mpg

2021 Tahoe RST 2WD 5.3 and 10,111
Currently averaging 17.3 with mixed driving (city/hwy). On city driving only I’ll average about 12.8. Best I’ve got was 26mpg on the hwy but there is no fun in that.

These new gens are terrible compared to last. I have a Tahoe Z71 6.2 and it gets about 10-11 city driving and that is driving very conservative. My 6.2 18 Denali XL 4wd got a consistent 17mpg around town. I’m not sure what they did to make the mpg worse then last gen, only thing I can figure is they are way heavier.

I have been in a 2021 'Burban rental with 46K for the past 5K miles and have been getting 16-18MPG highway loaded with a box on top. I am actually kinda disappointed with the MPG. My 18 with the same mileate was getting about 1-2 MPG more and it is about the same MPG that I got with my 08 that hat 185K on it.

We are exploring getting a 22, but will go with the 3.0 Duramax.

I am at least glad that I see some sincere honesty among these posts. Many who have made the 5.3/6.2 choice try to inflate their numbers to help justify their choice.
But the above # are real world, especially in the city for either engine. I used to have a Hemi RAM which was a great truck, but it couldn't get much above 14 MPG with a wind behind it.
Those days and 4.00 gas back in 2013 era pushed me over the edge to all Diesel vehicles and I haven't regretted it since...

22 yukon XL Denali, 6.2 Gasser. Just did a 550 Mile Road trip, with some thrown in city miles and starts/stops, averaged 17.8 for the entire 553 miles. Ran 92 octane from Costco. Best 50 Mile Stretch was 22.6 according to the vehicle computer.

In town driving here in Frigid Minnesota is around 14-14.5 right now, not much warming up/remote start.

My 2013 LTZ Suburban with 5.3 and Max Trailering Package usually got 13-13.5 in town in same temps in winter, and about 17.5 on the same type road trip as this one.

Therefore, I am pretty satisfied w/ the 6.2, as it is +90HP, +900cc of displacement, and getting the same fuel economy. I am also expecting things to get a bit better with a few more miles (only 1300 on the clock so far), and warmer temps in spring/summer.

I don't calculate fuel milage as I really don't care and did not buy a massive yukon xl with any delusion it would get remotely good milage but according to the dash our lifetime average at 10k miles with our 5.3 has been 17.5 mpg. That is better than most of our other vehicles so zero complaints from me. Most our driving is on country roads/highways and not a lot of city
