What's actually included with the Max Trailering Package?

My wife and I are currently looking for a 2021 or 2022 Tahoe. We tow a TT and a boat multiple times a year. I've only seen general info about the Max Trailering Package. What do they mean by extra cooling capacity? Is the radiator bigger or the reservoir? Also what do they mean by suspension upgrades?

We're specifically looking at Z71's that aren't white or black. It's not easy finding the right combo so we wondered if these are items that can be added/addressed on a Tahoe without MTP. We aren't pushing the limit towing, our TT is about 6k loaded and the boat about 4500. It's more for piece of mind since we tow in the desert during summer.

Was looking at gmpartswarehouse and there are two different radiators. One is for heavy duty cooling, the other isn't. I guess one has a higher capacity, surge/expansion tank is the same. Couldn't easily tell what else. Looks like the rear is minimally stiffer springs. There are springs listed for an increased capacity pkg (z85 suspension), part# 23154240.

If I remember correctly the radiator is slightly bigger + an auxiliary cooler for the transmission. There is also a built in trailer brake controller (this is also a stand-alone option I believe).

You would be better off finding one equipped the way you want. It gets expensive trying to duplicate the factory options. I would increase my search area and either rent a car for one way trip or fly to the location and drive home with the vehicle that met my specifications if necessary. Good luck with your search.

Rear end is an automatic locking differential...not sure about the gear ratios. A lot of things to upgrade if you are trying to 'roll your own' max trailering package. 6K pounds is a significant load. You are going to be working your Tahoe much harder without the proper towing equipment. Took me 18 months of patiently waiting for the right Tahoe to come along with the towing package and other items on my "want" list, but I'm glad I waited.

4wd suv equipped with max trailering package also get a two speed transfer case (4 low)
I am not sure this is 100% true. I think this is only true on Escalades but otherwise the Tahoes/Subs/Yuks are selectable 4wd with auto-4wd on some of them.

Edit: If it is a Z71 spec then I think 2-speed transfer is standard + rear mechanical locker. Max tow might which it to an electronic locker. I know that’s the case on the AT4.

Max Tow gives you the 2spd T-case on the lower trims. For the Yukon, I recall the 2spd being standard on the Denali regardless of Max Tow. For the SLE/SLT the Max Tow got you the 2spd. On the Tahoe/Suburban, the LS/LT/RST would get the 2spd with the Max Tow, and Premier on up had the 2spd standard regardless of Max Tow.
