Do you guys know if I could take the hood insulation from my stock tahoe hood and move it to my new HD hood? If I don't put it on will it ruin the paint on the new hood? Thanks!!

ive taken the hood insulation of many of my cars (fallin apart anyway) im not sure if ur stock application would fit or not... i would go ahead and take it off and make a cardboard template to see if the insulation mounting holes would line up... now as far as the paint i dont see a problem with it.. on the cars ive taken the insulation off of i just cleaned it real good and waxed it so the future road grime would come off easier.... i think its cleaner with it on some and cleaner without on some...... honestly it personal preference...

The hood insulation should be fairly cheap (even from the dealer), so if you want to keep it just buy one for the HD hood.

Same question pretty much. I just bought an HD hood for my 04 Z71 and it came without insulation.

Will it actually ruin your paint or any other negative affects?

How has it held up for those that ran without the insulation for a long period time?

Thanks

My sons silverado has the cowl hood with out the insulation and nothing has happened to the paint. It's been like that for at least 3yrs. It also cammed causing it to have higher temps.

Same here on the removal of that insulation on my 99. I had the hood replaced and repainted about 4 years ago. My 06 Suburban did not come with the hood insulation when I bought 4 years ago either, probably removed by the PO?

What was the purpose of the insulation anyway? Temperature or noise? When I asked my buddy that painted my hood, he said he thought it was to mitigate chances of a fire. He thought the insulation would fall down and extinguish the flame. Not sure that I can see that happening, but I really don't know?

Tangentially related; my 2002 Tahoe has an aftermarket cowl hood, and I installed an aftermarket insulation and underhood cover with the Chevy logo on it and some super bright LED strip lights. I'm SUPER happy with it.
