Chasing a new one guys. Pass. side tail light is out, with no brake/turn/reverse functionality. Also noticing that the cruise is disengaging when using the headlights or right (pass. ) turn signal. Sounds all connected. Any thoughts?

Probably the "multi-function" switch, which is the left turn signal lever that has wipers, cruise, etc.

Will give it a shot. Come to think of it, I've been having issues with the wipers stopping in the middle of their sweep. Wonder if this is connected.

Thanks!

Common problem with wipers is the circuit board under the black cover on the wiper motor.

If you look at a wiring diagram, a ton of stuff runs through that switch. Not sure why GM did that, but that's what it is. You SHOULD study the wiring diagrams and do some troubleshooting first before condemning the switch. You have to drop the steering column and remove a lot of trim.

Kinda tedious job. I replaced that switch on my K3500 because my brake lights weren't working (but strangely the cab lights was; that's not wired through the multi-function switch...). The PO had apparently done some wire hacking, probably in a futile attempt to fix the issue.

And I just realized my son recently told me one of my brake lights isn't working. I hope it's not an issue with those funky circuit board thingies. Those things are so problematic, although I've never messed with them before TBH.

So I sorta took this path in that I got just enough of the old switch out to be able to plug in and mock up the new one without physically installing. While I was able to see some functionality, what really has screwed me over now is that the previous owner of this truck had an absolute hack job done for a Viper Alarm installation. While under the steering column, I guess something was jiggled around and now the truck will crank-no start and some times not crank at all. If anyone has a wiring diagram for the steering column/ignition wires I would greatly appreciate it (or a page number in the 1998 service manual). There seems to be a few of the oem wires that have been cut/tapped into and I want to try and cut out as much of the alarm stuff as I can. THat I can tell there is one white/ivory colored wire that seems to be the culprit that runs from the ignition switch down into the main harness.

All good. The harness bolt was not tightened all the way. We all good. Thanks!
