So this may be dumb but I just got a 1999 Tahoe a few days ago and everything online says the brights are the inside lights but my blue highbeam symbol on the dash comes on with the outside lights . Doesn’t help my confusion that the outside lights are different bulbs so they are wayyyy brighter . Inside two are very dim . Is somthing backwards or is it because the people before me only put newer more expensive bulbs on the outer two or does the symbol not mean brights? Am I just that dumb ?

Someonee swapped in aftermarket headlights/bulbs most likely. Some Eboy housings the bulbs just don't fit right without filing or swapping.Low beam normally outside. The plus if reversed is DRL's are hi beams so driving a 1 light way less likely to happen.

Sounds like they swapped the wiring. I use standard bulbs and don't drive at night with sunglasses. The best modification on these trucks for lighting is to install a relay so all 4 lights are on when you engage the high beams. It's a simple mod requires 1 Bosch style relay and a little skill.
