I like that your mods were goal oriented... And I have no doubt they truly enhance the towing experience... For you and the truck... A lot of mine were "wow that looks cool" -or- (my bread and butter) spawned by breaking parts...


What can you tell me about your 1800 stall? I've been patiently waiting for a clean, non-commercially used 2017ish ASV RT60 compact track loader, with low hours, HT/AC to appear for sale. For two reasons: 1- It's in a class of it's own weigh and sizewise. A class that I'm comfortable pulling up down and around WV roads @6750lbs. 2- Very well balanced with low ground pressure. Perfect recipe to work on slopes with.

I've been talking to the owner of Road Runner Converters for almost a year now. He's a business owner that started at the bottom and still designs and builds converters daily. I'm very close to making the purchase, just need a little more study time on refurbing my 6L80 and I'm pulling trigger. He's offered to build me a converter with a sub-factory stall, like 12-1400. Do you like the 1800? More? Less? How much you pulling? Flat? Hilly? Mountains? Would you care to rank your top five or so towing mods?

You won't like a sub rpm stall at all.. Stick with the stock 1600 or up...
It will have so much idle creep in daily driving it'll wear on you.
I accidentally ordered a 1600 once thinking I had an 1800 in it and it was awful.
Remember, you have a lock up torque converter so the slip is non existent
when the clutch is locked. So a "stall" hurts nothing at all. It helps you get moving!
My trans was a huge expense, but I only wanted to do it once.. It actually was performing
perfect but I knew I was going to tow and add power - cry once - but I don't worry about
it being the weak link.
As far as best mods: can't really say any one of them was the best. They were
all thought out to work together to make things reliable and strong.
The mod that I did take off was the supercharger I had on before I went to
the cam replacement and head work... It was great as far as power - smooth power
but the MPG penalty was just too high. But saying that, I know now that the proper
and better tuning would have helped that out.
My next mod (besides the rear diff) is going to be a forged stroker bottom
end. I'll do a 3.90 stroke crank with forged internals and keep the compression
below 10.5 so I can add the supercharger back on if I want to later.
the more common stroker is 415 ci with 4.0 stroke, but that allows the
pistons to rock a bit more at the bottom and the 3.9 stoke is readily avail these days

To add: the best mods : Cooling system... Can't be good enough or big
enough while towing..

Copy that! Cooling system will likely be even more of a factor here too... Thank you...

A stroker would be another nice heavy towing mod lol... Never explored that option for the LS? I've been day dreaming about shrink-wrapping the original motor in my 1980 Corvette and putting a full roller 383 in it for 20 years though. Im a big fan of stroked engines. But hadn't considered it for my truck.... Just what I need, another something to learn about lol
Have you looked into turbo's at all? Every few months I'll revisit my "best size turbo towing 5.3" search and each time be blown away by the amount of new info/content out there. At this point if I do anything to add power, I'm about 65/35 in favor of it being a small(er) turbo? The setup I last took notes on(and I'm hesitant to even type this bc it's been 2-3 months again): was strictly for the purpose of low rpm torque gains used L96 injectors and a 67mm spool at 6psi. It produced serious gains from 2500 up. Gain grew as rpm climbed peaking at 5000 with 448/452. It fell on its face above 5000rpm but I haven't spent much time between 5000 and the redline while near max cap towing.
I know it's far more nuanced than I just described, but based on my personal experiences, the less time an engine I own spends overstressed above 5000 rpm, the better lol
The last thing I wrote down was the last video I watched that night, and personally I believe it will become the norm over the next decade(assuming we're still all here and allowed to own/drive cars).....electric turbos. So many benefits... The biggest of which may be cost? You could buy 3 or 4 turbo setups for what you could sell that blower for?? Doesn't sound as cool.....can't think of too many things that do!
